The children have settled well in to class 3 and are working hard already.

In maths they have been concreting their place value skills and their addition and subtraction skills. The year sixes have been learning how to apply BODMAS and although this has been tricky they have done well to master it. They are continue to work on their problem solving skills and having fun with Miss Morris who is really challenging them!

In English the children have been learning the story ‘The Nightmare Man’ by Pie Corbett. They have learnt the story off by heart and completed some focused work on the language and structures used in this model text. The have then adapted this tale of fear to make their own versions, adding in some improved language and descriptions as well. The children are now going to begin planning and writing a tale of fear of their own.

The children’s topic this term is ‘Extreme Earth’ and over the last couple of weeks we have been learning about the water cycle and the extremes of weather around the world. We were fascinated to discover that tropical storms in the Pacific Ocean are called typhoons, tropical storms in the Atlantic Ocean are called hurricanes and tropical storms in the Indian Ocean are called cyclones. Over the next couple of weeks we will beĀ  finding out about earthquakes and Tsunamis and the causes for them.
