Class 2 - Years 2 & 3 Overview

Class 2 are given the opportunity, every year, to join with activities and events that are organised for the whole of the Federation.

The children are assessed at regular intervals throughout each year and at the end of each academic year to ascertain progress and inform future planning. Parents are informed of the progress and they are discussed at parents’ evening. Children in Year 1 are undertake a Phonics assessment and children in Year 2 undertake Year 2 SAT’s.

The whole school (with the exception of Reception) participates in swimming every Thursday in the Autumn and Spring term. They have the opportunity to earn badges and become more confident in the water.

Children in Class 2 are also encouraged to read as much and as widely as possible. Membership of the Public Library service provides an excellent opportunity for children to have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books.

In English, we have been busy writing our own wishing stories and the children have really enjoyed thinking of their own ideas for this.  We have focussed on many key aspects in our work this half term to improve our writing; most notably noun phrases, time connectives, use of commas for adjectives and introducing speech marks.

In maths, pupils have been interpreting data from a range of graphs.  We have presented information in tally and frequency charts, pictograms and bar charts.

In topic, children have thoroughly enjoyed our work on volcanoes and we have moved on to tsunamis most recently.  Pupils can explain how a tsunami is created and the damage it causes. Children decided what would go in their emergency evacuation kit if they lived in a tsunami risk area.

In science, children have identified what all animals and humans need for survival and the importance of a balanced diet for human health.

In RE, pupils have looked at Shabbat and why it is important for Jewish followers.

In French, children have learnt new vocabulary for pets and played some games to help with their recall of this.
