In maths, children have recapped 2D shape, position and direction.  They have now started their new topic which is multiplication.  Year twos have recapped their 2, 5 and 10 times tables through Tara maths games and other problem solving activities.  They have recalled multiplication facts for this orally, solved missing number questions and changed repeated addition sums into multiplication calculations.  Year threes have recapped their 3, 4 and 8 times tables through Tara maths games and other problem solving activities.  They have recalled multiplication facts for this orally, solved missing number questions and learnt how to multiply three numbers in a row.

In English, children have started their non – fiction topic on instruction writing.  They have drawn a text map for an example of this type of writing and identified the main features, creating a class checklist.  We will move on to sequencing instructions next and improving instructions, as well as focussing on adverbs and sentence types in weekly SPAG sessions.  Pupils continue with weekly spelling sessions, guided reading, handwriting and comprehension.

In science, pupils will be investigating fossils, soils and rocks in the forthcoming weeks.

In topic, children have started studying our new topic ‘The Polar Regions’ and have identified the location of the North and South Poles, the oceans of the world and the countries that make up the Arctic Circle.  They have started to explore the animals which live in these regions and what the climate is like.

In RE, pupils will look at the importance of sacred texts and what we can learn from them.

In Spanish,  children have learnt new vocabulary for the parts of the body.
