In maths, pupils are exploring 2D shapes. They are finding examples in the school environment and discovering their unique properties. We will be looking at how shapes can be classified depending on their sides, number of right angles and/or lines of symmetry. Times table tests will continue on Mondays.
In English, children have been learning our new story for this half term ‘Charlie’s Bag’ in ‘Talk 4 Writing’ style. They have had opportunities to re – enact the story and retell the language structure in a variety of ways. Pupils will soon draw story maps for the original text, before innovating the story to create a new version. We will focus on embedding key grammar and punctuation skills along the way, most notably the correct use of capital letters and commas. Children continue with weekly handwriting, comprehension and guided reading sessions to re – enforce other important literacy skills. Spelling tests will resume on Tuesdays and your continued support with this is always greatly appreciated.
In science, children will be identifying world habitats and the animals that can adapt to these, sometimes, harsh environments.
In topic, pupils have started their topic on the Egyptians. We have thought about what we know already and what we would like to find out. Children have made their own 3D models of a pyramid and identified some fascinating facts on these ancient marvels.
In RE, children will continue with their study of Judaism. They will focus on the symbols connected to this religion and their significance. Finally, pupils will explore Jewish festivals.
In PSHE, children have explored different feelings and reflected on when they felt a particular emotion. What instigated it? Did it change? Why? Pupils will then look at what makes them safe.
In Spanish, pupils will recap vocabulary on colours and then learn new words for different items of clothing.
